The new USB4 cable standard has three main advantages over previous USB versions:
1. Compatible with Thunderbolt 3 devices: Some USB 4 devices will work with Thunderbolt 3 devices, and it is also backward compatible with USB 3.2, USB 3.1, USB 3.0, USB 2.0, etc.
2. Maximum speed of 40 Gbps: By using a two-lane cable, some devices will be able to operate at 40 Gbps, which is the same speed as Thunderbolt 3.
3. Provide better bandwidth allocation for video and data: If users use USB 4 to transmit video and data at the same time, the bandwidth will be allocated accordingly. For example, if video transmission needs to occupy 20 percent of the bandwidth, the remaining 80 percent will be allocated for data transmission.
USB4 defines the 40Gbps standard, which can dynamically share bandwidth so that a single data line can achieve multiple functions. With USB4, PCIe and display data can be simultaneously transmitted on one line, plus traditional USB functions, and can also supply power (by USB PD provided) is very convenient.
